Kitchens and Bathrooms
Knowing that kitchens and your master bathroom are two very
important areas in
increasing the value of your home... lets start there.
*Adding full height backsplashes can be a huge impact to your area,
and can be
done for inexpensive. So that I am just not talking, lets put
some numbers to
it. Between your cabinets and your countertop is
usually 18" that is a
foot and half... lets say one of the areas you need
to cover is 10 feet long...
okay that is 15 sq feet. Average price for a
tile is $3.50 a sq ft, so that is
$52.50! Lets add a fancy lestello, if you
buy a meshed back 12x12 slate or
glass lestellos average price $15.00
and that would cover your area! Lets add
some bullnose and trim pieces
$20.00, some grout, and thinset... $30.00...okay
we spent $117.50, on
something that is really easy to do, and really adds a
dramatic change,
not to mention value to your home. Interiors By Mae is always
willing
to rent a tile saw and give you instructions.
*Change your countertop! If you are thinking of just changing your
laminate
countertop, the average price installed, with a beveled wood
edge is
$50.00 a foot. Lets say you are doing that same 10 ft... so that
is $500.00
installed.
* Here is my favorite. If you do not have one, adding a island to your
kitchen
can make a huge impact. An easy way to do that is using a old
kitchen table top and changing the legs!

*Changing your flooring does not have
to be spendy, there are lots of
options, some easy to install if your handy,
some difficult... call us and
we can help walk you through this subject.
* Some other ideas are changing and adding new hardware (knobs and pulls ) to
your cabinetry or changing your faucet!
Cheap and Chic Ideas
I want to take a moment and address some of the ideas out there that
state they are inexpensive ways to make your home fabulous, for very
little money. Yes
there are a lot of great ideas out there... but be
leery, there are also ideas that can damage your home and are not as
easy as they appear. Often we get
calls from soon to be clients
because they have tried to paint or decoupage their cabinets. We also
get phone calls from clients who have glued paper sacks
on their floor
or painted there vinyl. Its true that all of those things can be done, and
can have a nice look but... they also can be complicated to accomplish
and can ruin a good thing. By no means do I want to discourage
anyones creativity, however, please get real advise from a professional
before jumping into these projects. We would also like to offer you
some inexpensive
ways to upgrade your home and its value.

Stuff
you might have already!
When seasons change, I change my interiors. Changing your linens to
lighter ones in the spring, and heavier ones when fall arrives. Changing
your couch pillows and throws are good ways to change the over all
look as well.
Bringing the outdoors in, has been a long time favorite. Flowers or
fruits for
spring and tree branches or vegetables for fall.

Remember this, a artist that paints will often paint something off to
the side of the painting, sometimes on the upper left corner,
sometimes on the right... either way the painting comes asymmetrical.
The theory holds true in interiors, by adding height on a table maybe,
or something bold in a corner, it allows your eyes to travel the room.
So if you bring the outdoors in, do not be afraid to do it
with some
height.
Do not forget, your design estimates
and questions are always free!
