LESSONS IN CABINETRY
I have been selling cabinetry for so long that I certainly can get very long
winded ,however I will try not to.Cabinetry is not only used in kitchens and
bathrooms, but also looks wonderful in closets, as a dresser, benches,
buffet cabinets, desks and lots of other creative options. When shopping for
cabinets there are some things that any good designer will go over with you.
1) wood... the kind of wood you choose is not only important in the look your
looking for but also will make drastic changes in how much you will pay for
the cabinets. Oak is usually the least expensive than moving on to a white
thermafoil door... going on to hickory and maple. The more spendy woods would
be Cherry, painted doors and glazed doors. Often times you can find beautiful
wood stains in maple that look like cherry to help you keep cost down if
needed.
2) door style... believe it or not this might be the most important price
factor. As a designer it is always extremely important to keep a clients
budget in mind as well as their wants and needs. The door style one chooses
certainly is one way to accommodate price changes if needed. When both
Interiors by Mae and Interior Expressions opened, this particular issue was
very important to us. That is why all of our flooring and cabinetry is of
excellent quality, but is always offered at box store pricing if not less.Having
said that please make sure that you ask your designer about your door style
and how much it is affecting the price of your cabinetry. Make sure that it
is worth the value to you.
3) Extras!! Cabinetry now comes with so many extras that sometimes I expect
them to start the cooking! After going over your wood and door style, maybe
after saving so much you can opt for all the fun stuff that certainly makes
working in your kitchen easier. Things like pull out trays, trash can
cabinets, super susans, pots and pan drawers... gosh the list goes on and on.
4) Quality and Strength... this is of course something that will affect
the price of the cabinets but at the same token will make your cabinets more
durable, which can make them last longer. There are options like plywood
boxes, dovetail drawers, and the ever popular smart stops drawers and doors.
So in a nut shell make sure that you feel educated with your designer, and
that you receive all the options that are important to you.
